Best Bars In South London

South London has an open-air bar on top of a multi-storey carpark; a drinking den located (Russian Doll-style) inside a drinking den (and again, inside another drinking den); and a chic cocktail lounge courtesy of one of the world’s best mixologists…

…and they’re the less eclectic additions to our list of the best bars in South London.

Which happens to be right here:

Frank’s Café | Peckham

Frank's - best bars in Peckham

Londoners journey to Peckham solely to go to Frank’s…and for good reason too. It’s a huge, open-air bar on the roof of a multi-storey car park which – alongside classic cocktails, craft beer, and a variety of wines; not to mention a European-inspired food menu – offers a breath-taking 360° view of the city. The sunsets are wild.

Address: 10th floor, Peckham Multi-story Car Park, 95A Rye Lane, SE15 4ST | Please note Frank’s Café & Campari Bar is closed until summer 2023 | For more information, visit their website here

Mother Kelly’s | Vauxhall

Mother Kelly's Vauxhall

In keeping with it’s East London counterpart, Mother Kelly’s Vauxhall is a craft beer bar and bottle shop, housed in a huge, industrial-styled railway arch. There’s 33 beers on draught (and that’s before you consider all of the bottled and canned options tucked away in the fridges). They’ve also got not one but two outdoor terraces, both home to the occasional street food truck, especially during busier times.

Address: 76 Albert Embankment, Vauxhall, SE1 7TP | For more information, or to book, visit their website here

Tap & Bottle | London Bridge

Tap & Bottle

Taps & Bottle is a rustic-styled wine bar in London Bridge, specialising in wines on tap. The selection’s not huge (10 in total), although they’re well thought-out, and change regularly. Taps also means they’re happy for you to try out as many of the wines as you like, meaning you can try something new and only ever be pleasantly surprised. They also have a small but picturesque terrace ideal for alfresco drinking come summer.

Address: 64 Union Street, London, SE1 1SG | They don’t have a website yet, but you can keep an eye out for news/updated via their Twitter page here

Lyaness | South Bank

Lyaness Bar

Lyaness is a cripplingly chic cocktail bar on the Southbank. It comes to us courtesy of world-renowned cocktail-aficionado Ryan Chetiyawardana whose accomplishments include taking Dandelyan (Lyaness’ previous incarnation) to No. 1 on the World’s Best Bar list. After winning the award Chetiyawardana decided to shut Dandelyan down, crafting Lyaness from its ashes. Of course a whole new bar means a whole new cocktail list which, here, is split up into six sections, with each section focused around a different – often fantastical – ingredient. Think purple pineapple; infinite banana; and vegan honey.

Address: Sea Containers London, 20 Upper Ground, South Bank, SE1 9PD | For more information, or to book, visit their website here

WC Clapham | Clapham

WC Clapham

It’s a romantic, shabby-chic wine bar, housed in what was once a public lavatory.

Address: Below Clapham Common Station, The Pavement, Clapham, South London, SW4 7AA | For more information, or to book, visit their website here

Four Quarters | Peckham

Four Quarters

It’s a small, high-energy gaming bar on Peckham’s vibrant Rye Lane. Downstairs you’ll find 15+ vintage arcade games – everything from Pacman to House Of The Dead 2 – whilst upstairs sees retro consoles. Drinks wise they’ve got two for £10 cocktails; as well as 40+ draught, bottled, and canned craft beers. They also do a mean burger, or, for any veggie or vegan folk out there, the likes of beer-battered caulibombs and buffalo of BBQ seitanic wings.

Address: 187 Rye Lane, Peckham, SE15 4TP | For more information, or to book, visit their website here

Diogenes The Dog | Elephant & Castle

Diogenes The Dog - Photo By Daniel Ogulewicz

Diogenes The Dog is a laid-back, leafy-green wine bar and bottle shop in Elephant and Castle, focused on championing wines from small vineyards and independent producers. The wine list is small but regularly-rotating, meaning there’s always something new to pique your interest. Plus they do an exciting range of Modern European small plates – smoked scamorza with sun-dried tomatoes and wild honey and anchovy fillets with crumbled blue cheese – meaning you can stay the evening and rely on being well-fed.

Address: 96 Rodney Road, Elephant & Castle, South London, SE17 1BG | For more information, or to book, visit their website here

The Corin | Tooting

The Corin

Sitting three floors above the busy Tooting Broadway intersection, The Corin not only boasts a pretty spacious and well-dressed roof terrace, but also frequently fills that terrace with live musicians. Add to that some interesting cocktails, pan-Asian dishes, and plenty of quirky touches, and this bar wouldn’t look out of place in Soho.

Address: 54A Tooting High Street, SW17 0RN | For more information, or to book, visit their website here

Humble Grape Battersea | Battersea

Humble Grape Battersea

If you live in Battersea you have this rustic subterranean wine bar and bottle-shop on your doorstep, boasting a mighty 300+ wines. We like them because there’s no pretentiousness. In fact, as the name suggests, Humble Grape was set up with the intention of making the wine world feel more accessible. If you have a question they want to answer it; there’s no such thing as stupid. And once you’ve fixed the wine, they’re just as happy to talk you through the food. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something to go, they’ve got something for every budget, with many of the wines being sold at (very nearly) cost price.

Address: 2 Battersea Rise, Battersea, SW11 1ED | For more information, or to book, visit their website here
