Or in other words, ‘I am not a fish’; which (given its weighty logic) will undoubtedly come in handy at some stage.
What comes in handy now though, is ‘Omne Trium Perfectum’, meaning that any set of three is complete or perfect, and in turn completely explaining why Dishoom King’s Cross – the third incarnation of the Irani-styled Bombay café in London – has elevated the status of its Shoreditch and Covent Garden predecessors… by being better than them.
Here’s why:
Previously The Old Western Transit Shed, Dishoom King’s Cross is more than 9,000 square feet of converted industrial space over three floors; including an atmospheric basement cocktail bar (‘The Permit Room’); a mezzanine & al fresco dining space; and an upstairs loft directly overlooking the ground floor’s open kitchen. It also happens to be home to over 100 pieces of antique 19th- and 20th century Indian furniture, and a giant suspended replica of then-Bombay’s famous Victoria Terminus clock.
And who doesn’t love a giant clock.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner come in the form of Dishoom’s now-signature traditional Parsi appetisers and modern Southern Mumbai street food sharing plates. That means things like eggs Kejriwal (on chilli cheese toast), bacon naan rolls and endless cups of chai to start the day; and jaggery-marinaded grilled lamp chops, gunpowder potatoes and bowls of crispy prawn koliwada to finish it.
Then, after an array of small plate sampling and clock gazing, you can retire to the speakeasy style Permit Room, where (along with international wines and local beers) bartenders pour bottle and cask-aged cocktails like the Sir Jeejeebhoy (a coconut water-infused Old Fashioned) and the Rudy Cotton (with rum and blood orange) over hand-chipped ice bricks.
And there’s also a ‘dedicated juice bar’.
It’s notorious for taking its role seriously.
NOTE: Dishoom King’s Cross is open Mon-Wed 8am-11pm, Thurs & Fri 8am-midnight, Sat 9am-midnight and Sun 9am-11pm.
