Rochelle Canteen

Rochelle Canteen | Seasonal British Menu From A Repurposed Bike Shed

Old friend.

We know you well.

And we know that sometimes you just want a nose-to-tail inspired, subtly-secret restaurant from Melanie Arnold and Margot Henderson inside the repurposed bike shed of an old Victorian Era school’s grassy playground.

Which, as it happens, is exactly where Rochelle Canteen comes in. The process of entry to which requires you to, firstly, make your way to Arnold Circus – just off Shoreditch High Street and bordering the surprisingly secluded Boundary Gardens – secondly, locate a small silver buzzer on an unsuspecting blue door hidden amongst a brick wall of vines, and finally, pressing it, requesting a table, entering, and making your intentions known.

Rochelle's Canteen

Those intentions will likely be something along the lines of eating from the St John-inspired daily changing menu, where a small selection of options – like for example, steamed mussels with chips; chard, chickpea and tomato stew; and rhubarb panna cotta – are crafted from the morning’s freshest available produce. Then, after securing a table outside on the grass and thinking about how nice it is to be eating one of London’s finest lunches in what feels like a country house garden, you can cheers your friends with what we’re decidedly confident is likely to be your favourite glass of wine.

As of two minutes ago.

NOTE: Rochelle Canteen is open for lunch daily, as well as dinner Wed-Sat. You can find out more, and book a table on their website here.
