Hoppers

Hoppers | Soho’s Sri Lankan Restaurant

Kudos.

It is on this very day that you’ve finally reached the long awaited point in life whereby you can, without an ounce of hesitation, provide an answer to the ever-present question “Where should we eat tonight?“.

Serious congratulations are in order.

So congratulations. Seriously.

Because you can now point out to those of your friends who love to eat, but don’t always know where to do it, that Hoppers – a Sri Lankan restaurant from Karam, Jyotin and Sunaina Sethi, whose wider group also encompasses GymkhanaBAO, and Lyle’s – is open in Soho.

You’ll also be able to point out how it’s handily located a few doors down from Ronnie Scott’s on Soho’s bustling Frith Street; that it’s adorned in traditional Sri Lankan terracotta floor tiles, handmade stained glass lights, bright green plants and raska masks; and that it’s unfathomably good value for money.

Inspired by the roadside street food stalls of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, the menu features a collection of ‘short eats’ like hot butter devilled shrimp, duck roti and bone marrow varuvals; hoppers (a concave pancake made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk, accompanied by curries of Guinea Fowl and Red Pumpkin); and dosas (like at Gymkhana, except twice the size and more than half the price). And to wash it all down: Sri Lankan beers, one white and one red wine by Michele Chiarlo, plus cocktails like the genever, papaya and coconut water ‘Citizen Burgher’ and the arrack, saffron-vanilla bitters and pineapple sorbet ‘Black Pepper Punch’.

This place is the real deal.

NOTE: Hoppers Soho is open Mon-Sat for lunch and dinner. To book, and find out more, check their website HERE.
