Alaskan Gold Rush

Alaskan Gold Rush

If a normal group of people were to become really passionate about Alaskan seafood – to the extent that they wanted to share it with the world, and get others experiencing it for themselves – then you might expect them to perhaps set up a market stall. Or maybe host an intimate seafood pop up dinner. You know, start small.

But the rascals behind Shuttlecock Inc. aren’t normal.

So this Saturday (21st June) they’re sharing their appreciation for Alaskan seafood by turning Pimlico Gardens into an Alaskan settlement in 1899, filled with wagons; actors getting you into the spirit of the Gold Rush; campfires; live music; cookery demonstrations; and, in the evening, a sit-down dinner under the stars. All of which would seem a bit weird – given Alaska’s reputation for being freezing cold and dark all of the time – if it weren’t for the fact that Alaska actually enjoys sunshine for up to twenty hours a day throughout the summer, and so is the perfect location on which to base a lazy day of alfresco feasting.

Head along during the day and you’ll find live music and cocktails; treasure hunts with Wyatt Earp; chefs who used to work at restaurants like Moro and Bocca Di Lupo giving free demonstrations in everything from poaching Alaskan salmon and making gravadlax to learning how to filet fish and crabs; seafood-laden tasting stations; and the story of The Last Frontier relayed by a fast talkin’, pipe smokin’ prospector…  Or alternatively book in to the evening session and you’ll be invited to enjoy four courses of the finest Alaskan fare, plus live music and dancing at a romantic seafood dinner dance under the stars, where the world will be your oyster…

You might even pull a mussel.
